What’re the Pros and Cons of the Common Materials for Pet Toys?

The most common pet toys are made of plastic and plush/cloth. Since plush material is simple, while plastics vary a lot, this article mainly introduces the pros and cons of the different plastic materials that are used for pet toys.

ABS,PVC

Pros:

Low cost, strong plasticity, light texture, can float on water, partially recyclable, easy to buy.

Cons:

Poor temperature resistance(too cold it will harden, and can not be sterilized at high temperature), no elasticity and not durable, scratches are easy to breed bacteria, easy to break, and some broken parts are sharp, easy to scratch if ingested.

Latex(Natural latex rubber)

Pros:

Anti-mite and antibacterial, soft and ductile, good taste, high wear resistance and elasticity, safe and non-toxic, environmentally friendly and degradable, can float on water, anti-static.

Cons:

There is a slight latex smell, can not be exposed to the sun, easy to oxidize, can not be sterilized at high temperature, and the bite resistance is average

TPE/TPR (Thermoplastic elastomer /thermoplastic rubber)

Pros:

Low cost, good elasticity, soft and not easy to deform, safe and environmentally friendly, non-toxic and odorless, recyclable and reusable, can float on water, wear and bite resistance.

Cons:

Poor high temperature resistance, can not be sterilized at high temperature, texture like rubber.

Rubber (Natural rubber/synthetic rubber)

Pros:

Wear-resistant and durable, good elasticity, high penetration rate, easy to buy.

Cons:

Has obvious odor, some may contain harmful substances, high density, very heavy, low heat resistance, easy to crack due to aging (natural rubber has poor oxygen resistance), cannot be recycled

Silicone

Pros:

Soft and non-deformed, strong temperature resistance (-50~300°℃),

Aging-resistant, wear-resistant and bite-resistant, not easy to mildew (self-drying effect), not easy to allergic, safe and non-toxic, environmentally friendly and easy to clean, good feel, can float on water.

Cons:

High price, cannot be recycled
